Topic Title: What do you all think about Suikoden

Now there are 4 series released, Gensosuikoden I,II,and Gensosuikogaiden Vol 1,2. But I heard that this game doesn't make quite a success in Europe and America, so Konami won't plan to release Gaiden in English version. So sorry T_T.
In my opinion, this game is great, even the graphic couldn't compare to Xeno or any SQUARE's games. So, how are you think about it?

Siukoden II i thought was a great game. Although not beating it, which i still want to do, i find the game quite intriguing and different. Having 6 party members at once attacking all with very cool looks and skills, all attacking at once and doing combo attacks is cool and should be done more often. I really love those large scale battles tho, Flik owns them all.

I had a discussion about this a while back, and my opinion hasn't really changed since. Suikoden 2 IS a very enjoyable game - but only if you're really in the mood for an RPG. In other words, if you're looking for a game that will totally suck you in, whether you want it to or not, then I don't think this is it. However, if you go in wanting to enjoy it, then you certainly will.
Personally, I really enjoyed Suikoden 1, and when I look back on it, that was because I hadn't played an RPG for half a year up until then. Plus, it was one of the first decent RPGs out for the psx in Europe. At the moment, however, I wouldn't give it more than a few hours of my time. Give me a few months of no RPGs and I'll begging to replay S2 for the perfect fix.
However, I'd never say it was on the same level as XG or VS. Thoroughly enjoyable, but not outstanding.

Spoiler Free
I don't really know, I preferred the way they did their sprites in Suikoden II. I totally fell in love with them!
I mean the were very anime like, and the expressions they did were totemo kawaii! Square does have good graphics, and there sprites may "look" better to some people... but I say Suikoden was pimp! Totally pimp.
The game had loads of awesome minigames, which is what square is starting to lack in there games. I love the ability to play silly games, not just one big card game throughout the whole game. Like FFVII, I must admit, had tons of enjoyable minigames. Just the storyline was rather weak and hodge podge. Whereas Suikoden II's storyline is great. Sure it's not super deep like Square tries to be, but it's really human and enjoyable.
Some people would look at the game and say," 108+ characters? Well then obviously it's going to have poor character development..."
But that is soooo not true, I thought they did a great job of giving you a feel for most characters, of course some characters were just... eh... but like people are just eh IRL too.
I truly think that Konami did a great job, and I absolutely loved the music, it suite the game perfectly... unlike Onimusha... that was horrible. But it fit the moods well, and it sounded great! The game had a total Celtic and middle eastern thing going on, which I found refreshing. If anyone wants to look into a sound track, well I would suggest Orrizonte which I believe is an arranged version from the Suikoden series. I think it was a beautiful album.
The battle system is also great, you have so many choices to the characters you can use. By trying out different teams you can find new moves. Where 2+ people can do attacks together. Also there are many different "spells" that come from runes, and some runes are only indigenous to certain characters. Which means you have to play them to see the different spells. The battle system was very smooth, you could do attacks at the same time as other characters... of course it's hard to explain... but it made the battles go a lot quicker than in most games. Mind you, some boss battles take a while.
Another amazingly fun aspect is being able to control your army on the battle field. Certain characters are important to the battles, so the more characters you find, the stronger your army can become. The battles are strategy based, and depending on how you do in them, you might be able to keep some of your characters... if not, well they're gone forever.
All in all though, I found it to be a great game, I enjoyed it completely. Between the strategy battles, plot, battle system, characters, and music... I think that this was an A+ game. Certainly greater than the first Suikoden... which normally doesn't happen... that is the 2nd out doing the 1st.
If anyone can't afford the PS2 like me, but wants a new game to play, and has never tried this one! Shame on you... well try this game, and hopefully it won't disappoint you.

no kidding... I can't believe how some major game review sites and mags could give it scores like 4 or 6. NO WAY. The sprites were so kewl because they were so anime like (as previously stated)... The battles were so much LESS boring, as is a common symptom of RPGS.. because they had characters attack rapdily, not to mention Dual Techs (of Chrono Trigger fame). And what could be kewler than becoming leader of a kingdom, an army, and a castle? having people like Blue Lightning Flik and Victor the Bear at your side? And recruiting people for miscellaneous purposes? Let's not forget the daily cook-off!! And, where the game stole my heart, the grand scale Army battles. *Janus salivates*

I enjoyed Suikoden 1 but only for finding new characters to advance the castle. That was basically the only thing I enjoyed about it. Never played two though. The graphics were lame and the storyline didn't really interest me.

You only paid 30 bucks? Not bad, but you guys get a lot of good RPGs in the West, where as we Brits don't get diddly squat. You get Chrono Cross, we don't.You get Xenogears, we don't. Suikoden over here is really, really, REALLY rare over here!!! That's why I'd sell my nuts for it!

I've only actually played Suikoden 2, and I really liked it. Granted, it was with a friend for a very brief period, but I found the game enjoyable; the look, the environment, and the overall feel the game employs was just right. However, when I looked into buying the game I couldnt get a hold of a copy, so I pretty much gave up on persuing it, and I never had a chance to play the first one.

Oh! You are so quick to give up grasshopper. Look inside of you, and ask yourself this:
"Am I truly trying my best... too find the Divine Copy of Suikoden II!"
Even my other chiisai gakusei TC failed... I had to give him the power to view the lower racks of the video game shelf... where I picked out the Divine Copy of Suikoden II myself.
Okay, so what if I favor him... he's Sensei's pet... kissu my butt.
If you want to get anywhere in this evil evil world... you must TRY HARDER!
Now go... go and search for the Divine Copy of Suikoden II. And do NOT return to Leamonde until you have attained it.
If you don't return with it... we'll have to beat you with tonfas and kick you out... you will disgrace your family name...
Now go...
EDIT: I am perfect... absolutely flawless... so ignore this edit...

Well, I humble myself to you oh great lords of Lea Monde, and I have attained a copy of this "sacred" Suikoden 2 (haha.......well kind of ^_^). It turns out that my extra dinero is just that;- extra dinero (no TV for me, mine is fine, i just made a rhyme!), so I took everybody's word for it and went out on a limb, to look for the game in the one place I hadn't yet.........
The Internet! (doh....hey another rhyme! haha)
So it's on its way, along with Valkyrie Profile and some Rancid shirts off Interpunk), now, oh flawless Guen, do i have the honor to return to Lea Monde? :)

Well, I'll have to see, For it's up to TC, But if it was up to me, I'd say," Let it be!"
I suppose this post is becoming terribly corny, must be the strawberries, for they made me rather horny *Covers her mouth*
Actually, I never ate any strawberries... *furrows brow*
Anywhooo, my little grasshopper... you may return, but you'll only rise in rank once you have DEFEATED Suikoden II.
For now you're just a chiisai gakusei.
But I see great promise in you, so who knows ;)
EDIT: Aaaaaand...your point about my spelling of Lea Monde goes noted... *glares*
*Then sighs* TC nags me from time to time about saying Leamonde... what an old nag huh? No fun at all... poo...

You know, your description of Shinji matches a madman's story, called "The devil lived in my arse". A guy who believed that... he was mentally ill of course. What the hell am I talking about anyway.
