While writing that post on Uematsu a few moments ago, I got an idea of what was off about CC in comparison to CT, imo. The MUSIC! While CC has a great soundtrack, it sounds too much like Xenogears, and, apart from "Time of the Dreamwatch", "Time's Scar", and "Chronomatique" (not sure about the name on that last one... but I'm talking about the overworld theme, anyway...), two-thirds of which are in the intro, and not in the game itself, it sounds nothing like CT. Therefore, to me, I think this caused it to lose some of that great, indescribable, "feeling" that Chrono Trigger had. But I keep thinking there's something else off about it... something about the theme of the game (and no, I'm not talking about the "time travel" aspect, that doesn't really bother me)... I don't know, maybe I'm just crazy... At any rate the only other beef I have with CC is the fact that for a game that short (roughly 30 hours, was it?), the plot sure did move along slowly... but it was worth it for the plot twist spoiler:about the dragons... at the end, which was practically "Sixth Sense" caliber... I NEVER saw that one coming.

I don't see how sounding like Xenogears is a bad thing.
The reason it didnt' sound like CT is because the sound samples were very different. Melodically they're very related. And frankly, I like the SNES sound samples a lot better than the PS1 sound samples... they're truly horrible sounding.
As for your spoiler
spoiler: Uhh... you need to play more videogames. That dragon thing is so overused, it's lame. lol, Lunar and Lunar 2 have the exact same thing going on. It's not new, and in fact is rather uncreative.
Yes, CT had an incredible soundtrack. Probably the best I've heard (up there with FF6, if not surpassing it). CC messed with the the original CT story because they were relatively uncreative, story-wise. And while it was an excellent game, I personally find it not to CT's caliber.
If you've heard some of FFX's music, you'd know why most of us feel that Uematsu has lost his touch. It uses the PS1 samples, again :P More sucky midi samples, and very very uninspiring music.
And I think I'm one of the few people who actually enjoys short RPGs. :P I don't have time to go through a 70 hour adventure anymore... I have school and other obligations... I love gaming a tremendous amount, but egads, you'd better have one helluva story to tell if you're going to take 70 hours. You watch enough anime and play enough videogames, you start to see how unoriginal a lot of this stuff is.

Well, first off, I don't think Xenogears had a bad soundtrack at all, I'm just saying it doesn't sound very much (if at all) like CT did. And CT's music added to the whole sense of "adventure", which I think is the other thing missing from CC. Xenogears' soundtrack is one of the best game soundtracks ever, but it isn't really fitting for a Chrono game. Secondly, and I haven't finished Lunar 2 (only Lunar TSSS) yet, so if I'm wrong about this, laugh at me quietly, without telling me and thereby ruining the plot, but the dragons in Lunar were never spoiler:revealed to be evil... and considering the dragons seemed so... well "good" in CC (what with the relaxing music (which actually DID sound a bit more like CT...) playing in the background and all), that really came as something of a surprise to me... I agree that CC was not a great game in the same sense that CT was, but that's just because it was made in a slightly different way... without that aforementioned sense of "adventure" that CT had. They tried to make it more "mature", and so while I thought it was an amazing game, I also thought it was a horrible sequel to CT. I also agree that it was slightly uncreative. Kato REALLY ripped off Xenogears with this game... I had a whole LIST in my mind awhile ago of different plot elements CC stole from Xenogears... I'll try to remember them and post them later, unless you guys already noticed them yourselves...

Although I also don't understand what TC meant with the Dragon's plot twist being unoriginal (I don't think I have to spoil these words, do I have to?), I can see where you are coming Surtur, about the Xenogears/CC part. Maybe you are talking about...
spoiler:The fact that Lynx was Serge's father, the fact that Kid was the reincarnation of someone, the fact that certain captain was too much like the Thames one...and the fact that one of the gun users was a pretty boy that acts like a freaking priest and believes everyone

Yep, there's all that (although I never really noticed the Pirate/Captain of the Thames thing...), but the most important, I think, are:
spoiler:Well, for one, if you compare the Frozen Flame to Zohar, the way both are used in the plot is VERY similar (both are responsible for the evolution of mankind, and Serge's "contact" with the Frozen Flame resembles Abel's with Zohar...), also, at the end of the game, Serge and pals fight Lavos to free Schala, much like at the end of XG, Fei and pals fight Deus to free Elly. Serge gets "posessed" by Linx, Elly gets "posessed" by Miang (and both times, after becoming posessed they attack their girl/boyfriends...). There are even more I'm sure, but I haven't played XG or CC in like, a year, so I can't remember right now...
-Surtur sounds a lot like the Captain of the Thames in real life... Arrgh, matey! Ahoy! and etc...
