"FFX OST" , Wed 8 Aug 03:57 PM

just heard the ff10 ost, though I haven't sat down and listened all the way through yet.
what can I say? well, I can say this - it _rocks_... to me :)
for a start, having three composers (that's uematsu, junya nakano and masashi hamauzu) gives it great variety. secondly, the instruments - they use a lot more than just the ff8 ones. they have some that sound really realistic (mainly the guitars on certain tracks). the dungeon themes are like, ambient. which I love and I'm sure will bore a lot of people :) the battle themes, apart from the regular one, are more like something out of Vagrant Story than an FF game I think. more atmospheric and battle-like than catchy and memorable.

basically I dunno what to say about it really, but it's certainly not the 'same old same old' I'm sure a lot of people are expecting it to be (trust me on this one, that battle theme is a BAD example). that's not to say it won't be boring to a lot of people - the ambience of it I'm sure will wear thin to like 90% of people when not in the game.

also, I think this is the darkest ff ost yet. then again I thought ff9's was quite dark but people think that was lighthearted so who knows :)

one last thing, for those who care, uematsu composes about 1/3 of the tracks solo while the other 2/3 are done by either nakano solo, hamauzu solo or are collaborations with uematsu.

Um, I just heard the overworld theme, and though I must say I enjoy it (it sounds VERY different from the overworld themes we've been given in most RPG's of late...), I'm not sure it fits as an overworld theme... sounds kind of like it should be placed somewhere in the middle of a CG/FMV scene, or something...

But it sounds great, nonetheless... perhaps I'll like it more after hearing it play as I run around the overworld when I get the game (which I hope to, as long as I get my PS2... I'm working for it now... :( )

-Surtur's very optimistic about FFX... the whole game just seems... different, for some reason...

I heard ff10 has multiple overworld themes cos of the way the world map works on it.. or cos it's really big.. or something.

which tune do you think is the overworld theme? I'm not entirely sure which ones actually are overworld tunes but I can guess!

Well, the song I downloaded was called "Overworld Theme"... of course, the name could have been changed by the person I d/l from... I used a file sharing program, after all...

-Surtur doesn't want to hear anymore FFX songs yet... he'll wait for the game...

Actually, the Final Fantasy X - Overworld.mp3 is probably the FF2j Overworld Symphonic Symphony remix, which I got too. None of the "Tracks from Final Fantasy X" tracks released early were actually from the game at all. unless it has a track number, ignore it.

Ah well, it still sounds great.

Dude, I think this is the first FF soundtrack that rivals FF6 in quality.

Very very nice. gives me goosebumps already, and I haven't even played the game!

yeah I think this one is like in the running to be as good as, or even maybe better than ff9 and xenogears to me (my favourites these days:) ). I'm not sure how to describe it but to me this OST seems to have like, everything. Or almost everything. also I find it way different to like any other OST I've heard. The 'mysterious' tunes aren't the usual, the dungeon themes certainly aren't the usual for FF, regular battle theme aside, the battle themes seem to be more outstanding and adrenaline filled (trying not to sound cheesy here!) than the usual catchy-style ones.. not that I minded the catchy ones but it's just a great change I think, and one I suspect will work fantastically in the game. and as for the sadder tunes.. I thought these were like, _fantastic_. they make me kinda wish I waited for the game so I could get the full emotional impact of them but they are just amazing to me. I think there are lots of little things I'm not sure how to put into words.. I just really hope it's not just the newness of it that's getting me into it so much (that happens a lot!), cos this seems to be a stunning soundtrack to me :)
Obviously this OST owes a lot to Masashi Hamauzu and Junya Nakano but I think Uematsu's older (some would say cliched ;) ) style stuff fits in _great_ here and really works with a bit of variety.

Admittedly, I have yet to hear it all (downloading track 3 of disc 4 as we speak), but the tracks I have heard are quite different from normal Uematsu/FF. Even the Uematsu solo ones (can you say "Otherworld"?). The ambience can really be felt, the chilling sound effects in the background of a variety of themes is fantastic, and the variety of other tracks leaves you spellbounbd.

One of the fun things, though, is trying to guess which track fits into what, you just cannot tell. Everything has so much variety. If anyone can confirm what the normal boss battle theme is, I'll be greatly...greatful...or something.

Quite ambient, quite different, quite good. We need more soundtracks that fall from the other tree.
