Personally, I'm tired of seeing teenagers save the world. Whatever happened to the good old days where there were actually adults with matured minds in RPGs? I think having teenagers save the world is an easy way out of making an RPG because you can easily portray feelings and thoughts of a kid.Would you really feel safe having an eighteen year old save our world? I know others agree with me, I just want to see how many.

Absolutely right - I'd like to see an RPG where most of the cast were in their late 20s/early 30s. It would be a LOT more believable ... especially for the characters who are supposed to be high-ranking military officials.

Well, that sounds like about as close to an invitation as I could ask for, so... <g>

For more of the same, including more extensive coverage of The Late Show With Kahran Ramsus, check out the RPG Inquisitor, only at Bobbin Cranbud presents:

TC is right it mostly has to do with who the target audience is.

In the end it really doesn't bother me so long as the game is well written. Though it's still important that the characters are actually credible. So yeah it's nice if there are one or two older characters in a game

Has to do with the age of the target audience. The best way to connect with your audience is to portray who they'd like to be on screen.

If you had a bunch of old-fogeys as the heroes, it'd be kinda silly, don't you think?

Also, men and women are both at their physical and mental peak between the ages of 17-24. Most of the great ideas/inventions/deeds in this world came from people around this age (most, not all though).

So while it may seem cliche, there are several good reasons for doing this.

Okay, I can understand that. But what about FF6? Most of the characters were in their twenties, or about to be, aside from a few. I dont' mean to bash the games with younger heroes, god knows I loved them. I don't really think RPGs have a target audience anymore, kids play them as well as adults. What about the guys in their thirties playing games? I just find it hard to connect and look up to a hero that's younger than me.

- By the way, I'm agnostic, just using reference to god for enthusiasm.
- Oh, yeah and I'm not in my thirties either. Haha..

I dunno, I don't mind it that much... like I said in another post, I don't connect to main characters PERIOD, so that's not really a problem. I'm fine with it as long as they're just teenagers... however, if RPG's start coming out with 7 year old heroes, I think I'd just give up on the genre. I'd hate to see the romances brewing between 7 year old male and female leads...

[Female Lead]: You're SO brave, [Male Lead]!
[Male Lead]: Ewwwwww, get away from me! Girls are YUCKY!

I think I started a post almost identical to this about a week after joining leamonde.net. I'm glad the spirit hasn't died.
