Are these items and others completly worthless with no purpose but to simply take up space in your items?

The only place I found the UFO photo was at Big Joe's shop. But I think that boy at the entrance of the orphanage could have it as well... I'm not sure about that.
Well those items are there just for fun, like the Gambler in FFVII, which was completely useless  It's like GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL. Hey come here Megu...Bulbasaur!

The books are only useful if you find them in disk 1, they let you open Billy's room at the orphanage. But if you get them from Big Joe, they are completely useless.

Hey Koj, were you serious bout the UFO thing or are you shittin' me? Either way I'll find out in a few minutes so there's really no point in posting this message but I'm going to anyway.
And I think disc '3' was a typo people, if he was serious at all.

All of those items really did have a point. The sole point was for people to post topics on messageboards asking about these items. So congratulations, you have fulfilled their purpose. Also, the beta of Xenogears was 5 disks (just a little bit longer than the final XG) so there WAS a 3rd disk.

Well, the only use for those items I can fanthom is to provide a base for people to grow rumors to conquer the universe (or to resurrect Aeris, which isn't much better or nobler a purpose...)
