I was wondering: is Elly's "have&have nots" speech really her's? It's just that I was reading the 2099:Manifest Destiny comic the other day when I noticed the same speech (or a very close facimile). Hum...perhaps the writer played Xenogears and incorporated it in his comic script? BTW: What are kids doing in the Nortune prison D Block?! I mean, it IS a prison block, right?! Aren't they a little too young to be juvenile delinquents?!

That speech has been around for a long time - my mother recognized it right away. It's just a concept. *shrug*

I'm not sure if Carl Marx was the first to use the terms, but I do know that he did use them in his Communist Manifesto.
I doubt that Elly's speech was taken word-for-word from anywhere... but of course it will bear similarities to many historical speeches because of its applicability.

That may be correct... it sounds like something Marx would say. All I remember is that it was somehow related to history... so it's been around for quite awhile, and it's not a new idea. ^.^ It was just another well-integrated little bit.

I don't think that there are prisoners. They are either the childern of the prisoners or of the people who work there (after all, not everybody in D Block was a prisoner).

yeah, nyuna's right. d block isn't just for criminals, it's also for those who can't afford anything better. those kids are almost all orphans from the nortune riot, so they have no parents to support them. with no money, they don't get very many options for lifestyle - either live at the nisan facility, or take your chances on the streets of a prison town.
the others are proably the kids of very poor citizens who have to live there, or staff and innmates like nyuna said. ah well, not like kids in nortune go out to play much anyway...
