When you first reach Shevat and Dominia destroys the Shevat gate, she tells Maria about her fater and his experiments. She then says that inside of Sibzehn is the mind of... She gets cut of by Jessie and never tells. Who is in Sibzehn's mind?

Hmm. an interesting notion... well, something to keep in mind is that the Gazel Ministry are computerized.. who says the Gears minds have to be organic? And a computer program *can* be duplicated.
And its a rather cute pun on Instrumentality and the Path of the Sephiroth. What are the 17th and 18th spheres of the Tree of Life anyway? I've forgotten...

That is an eay question. Maria's father is in Sebzehn, or sixteen as I call her gear (German translation). Remember he even tells her he is a part of the ear

I'm sure you are right, goodDR, but your response brings me to another question: Is Nikolai in both Seibzehn and Achtzehn? How could this be? Also, I think Seibzehn means 17, but then again I could be wrong. Its just that I think I remember seeing at TNS that Seibzehn was 17 in German, & Achtzehn, in turn, was 18. No big deal, just little details...

I think that Maria's father is in both:he "was" in Seizbehn from a long time, when he was a good boy;then he was brainwashed in Solaris and he had put its twisted mind in the other gear, but before being brainwashed he put a device in the gear he was making, that,in contact with Seizbehn, would eventualy destroy the seal on the cannon of Seizbehn, and activate the memory bank in which were contained the information on Maria's father. This is what I've understood.

Oops, I thought that I hnad the numbers right, but I was told the namer's traslation. I have never taken German, nor understand tne gibberish, it was a guess. To answer the question in its entirety, I am gueesing, but if her father built both gears a bit of him are in them. Just like anyone, there is a good side and a bad one. Remember, this is a fantasy world.
Try asking Myaru.

I thought it was just a conscious chip which was installed in Achtzehn and that's what relayed the message etc. Nicholai himself was actually dead, think about it would he really go and attack his homeland if it was his actual consciousness inside the Gear. Not too sure about Seibzehn although Maria seems to be able to opperate the gear telepathically I mean she always stands on its shoulders and can call it in for battle. They probably explain it a bit better in the Yggdrasil or in Shevat so maybe someone should check that out.
Yes totally useless ha ha chase after it boy a love thats unattainable no matter how hard you pursue it.

How in Aveh does she remain on that gear's shoulders? Shouldn't she fall off?

Pretty simple: since Gears don't really exist, you can't fall of from something unexistant....
In other words, what I wanted to say by that, is that this is just a game, and has many unreal faces to it.. I mean, have you ever seen a flying submarine? I surelly haven't.. So how the hell that submarine flies??? It's a fantasy game, and somethings ar ejust ment to be irrealistic.. :)
From physics point of view, if the gear would provide a big enough magnetic field around it, you would be able to stand to it.. and even be upside down and not to fall (in theory). Practically however, the magnetic field must be very very strong for you not to fall down, and that would mean you'd have to be crushed (or "glued") to the gear, something a regular man can' t survive (probably)... In fact, it would be equivalent of a Neutron star gravity (a netron star is a dead stellar corpse resulting of a recombination of giant gaz clouds, and it's density is about that of 1000 elephants put into 1 square inch), meaning the attraction would be very strong the first few centemeters, and nil higher than that, basicly resulting in tearing a person in two, ahould another force attract her into another direction... :))
Heh.. all the fun things you could learn in the college... ;)

I thought it was part of what the Wels were used for. Little bit's of Wels combine into the main circuit of Siebsien.
I'll tell you when I've had enough pop!

Well, moreover I think that Seibzehn is clearly inspired by those old big robots from anime... just like Giant Robot, having a child that pilots it in some unclear way and never falls off... ^_^ Well, after all, Tetsuya Takahashi san in the perfect Works says that the idea behind maria was "If Kusama Daisaku was a girl..."... Kusama Daisaku is the pilot of Giant Robot ^_^
"It was a long time ago we heard God fell down from heaven. A girl was born. She was a light she was a shadow. She was a mother she was a girl. She was an ambivalent angel coming down to earth. She swung between love and hatred facing peace and battle. She saw the world being filled with sorrows of child. She followed her destiny. She guided children to the land of promise the land of rejoice."

Siebzehn does mean 17 in German; it was just spelled wrong in the game.
And speaking of physics and Maria, the Gear does have that anti-gravity device. That's how Maria was able to fight Achtzehn when the others were immobilized, and how the gang got into Solaris, right? So maybe it somehow keeps her on its shoulder by generating a sort of forcefield around itself.

It's a different thing:Maria have an anti-gravity cannon, not an anti-gravity device to stay on Seizbehn.

Not only does the girl have incredible balance, but she can hold her breath for hours at a time and survive in the deepest depths of the sea without getting smashed by the pressure...
