"an oldie but a classic" , Mon 9 Oct 00:35

Not quite sure which forum this belongs in exactly but its here now so if you dont like it tough.

Just curious about where all the names in Xenogears come from.
I recently discovered that Anima and Animus are two words associated with the psycho-analyst Jung (forgot his name but he hanged out with Freud a lot). Here's a few to get us started.

Deus: is obviously latin for God.

Ramsus: was a pharoh

Balthazar Melchior and Gasper: The 3 wise men aka the Magi

Shevat: I'm assuming it's a Jewish name

Abel and Cain: Sons of Adam and Eve

Babel tower: According to the bible it was a tower men built to reach God. As punishment they were thrown back to earth each knowing different languages.

Zeboim: was a biblical city which was destroyed by God

Yes totally useless ha ha chase after it

I've listed plenty of things here:
http://xenoquarters.xenogears.org/information/sources.html

"Have you ever been in love?" Kissoon replied.
"Yes I think so."
"Then you've been to Quiddity twice. Once the first night you slept out of the womb. The second occassion the night you lay beside the woman you loved. Or man was it?" He laughed. "Whichever."
"Quiddity is the sea."
"Quiddity is the sea. And in it are islands called the Ephemeris."
"I want to go there." Jaff breathed.
"You will. One more time you will."
"When?"
"The last night of your life. That's all we ever get."

I was watching "The Antique Roadshow," because I have no life, and their was an old book on it called "Zenosius." I think that it has some of the ideals of Xenogears in it. I have done some reseach on it and have found that it is about a priest who is searching for God, and is led by angels. But don't quote me. Myaru, if you know anything about this, let us know.

There are two entire pages on Guardian Angels that list the allusions and meanings of the names in Xenogears -- they're under the "World" link right now (or they should be). And now that I got my spiffy new reference books, I'm going to add yet more. Bweheh... err, after I finish my Lit essay. ^^;

I did not know a lot of the stuff you have mentioned here...Interesting. Where did you find some of this information?
Also, there is a lot of this stuff at Zenogias.com (ie the meaning of Shevat). Also, you will know a lot of this if you read religious books (for example, the story of Cain and Abel is I believe in The Quran, The Bible, and the Old Testament)...
If you play Valkyrie Profile you will also see where a lot of the Norse references in Xenogears came from (ie Yggdrasil, Fenrir).

All the biblical ones I knew before I played Xenogears. Ramsus I found out from my father who studies history for fun plus I looked it up. Shevat is an educated guess I'm sure it has religious significance and I think its Jewish but I'd have to look it up. Zeboim I remember reading from something Xenogears related probably another messageboard. Deus I forget where I found that one out from but I've heard it mentioned all over the place since.

Here's a few more

Raziel: was the name of an angel who wrote a book containing all kinds of knowledge I think about heaven and earth etc.

Ezekiel (the giant fish bowl): was a prophet

Excalibur: If you dont know where this got its name you're in big trouble

Seraphs: Are one of the orders of angels

Yes totally useless ha ha chase after it

Well... the Anima Relics are the 12 Jewish Tribes. The countries are hebrew months
Shevat = Shebat
Nisan = Nisan
Kislev = Kislev
Thames(Tammuz in Japanese version) = Tammuz

and i heard Aveh is somewhere in there too like "Abeh" or something

Elru and Nimrod are both in there too. and Zohar and the path of the Sefirot are both related to hebrew mysticism. Zohar is a holy book and the Sefirot is the 10 levels of existence between us and god (the game was actually using it in the right context after all, albeit with a science fiction twist)

the Eldridge was the ship that "disappeared" in the fabled Philadelphia Experiment. i could go on and on. or you could just ask Amber Michelle (Myaru) ;)
