Ok well I highly believe that Deus was created by humans. My theory is that Deus was originally created to protect humanity from any threat but then turned on them when he saw that humans were Humanity's biggest threat. The survivors managed to shut him "off" by disconneting him from Zohar. Remember the beginning movie where the opertor was trying to cut the wires with self distruct? He destroyed the people on the Eldridge when he regained power. Then he created Miang and the gazel to continue humanity, and to resurect him later on. Remember Krelian gave him the program to consume humans. It wasnt his purpose. The thing that does not fit with this theory is that later on Miang said, "The creations of Deus will be a burden later on." Does she mean the artificial humans and that he must find some true survivors to protect? Like from another ship? What do you guys think, do you think this theory is plausible?

Well, I've ever though that Deus was a weapon used to colonize new planet, but the first time he was used it destroyed a whole planet, so the creator of Deus dismembered it, and then it was carried on the Eldridge, that was a passenger ship, to be transfered to another planet were someone could examine it, but during the trip it awakened and then we could see what happened.

The Perfect Works says that the passangers of the Eldrige created Deus. WE was discovered on Earth, but Deus itself was not created until later in the timeline, at least a while into the Eldrige voyage, and it's quite possible that he was built to /kill/ humans, rather than protect. I don't think he has any defensive properties of that sort. He was made to destroy (and reform -- he's a terraforming machine); they created him during a wartime era, after all.
Later, Deus created Miang and the Gazel simply for self-preservation -- they were to provide the genetic material he needed to reform himself and continue on. Remember, this is a machine... Self-preservation and the continuation of his programmed purpose would have been first and formost in his "mind", no matter what else the Existence put there (even overtaking the Eldrige goes along with his program, to an extent). The human tendancies he did have were probably due to his creators, and later, Elly and Krelian.
Hmm... I think Miang meant the Animus, there, but it's been a while - I don't even remember when she said that, or to whom. ^^ I /was/ replaying the game, but then Valkyrie Profile and FF9 came along, so I've been distracted... And it's so much easier to play those two with such a tight schedule. ^.^ I love Xenogears, but even I can't sit that long and read the text when I've got work and classes crunching my time.

Who were they at war with? This part is always the part of Xenogears story that throws me of? Were they at war with an alien species or with other humans? And if the Eldridge was a secret military vehicle then why if it was important didnt other humans go look for it. I'm guessing that the Eldridge was all that was left of humanity.

Sadly, that's the part I don't know. ^_^ Considering the connotations of the game it's possible that they were at war against other humans, but I don't know for sure. I can look (it's easy enough for me to find reference to humans in a literal sense), but I have to find the time first. ^_^ Sorry I can't be clearer on that part of it.

Good question and its one the game doesnt answer. I wonder if Perfect works has the answer somewhere. Deus was definately designed as an invasion weapon. Take the terminal interface weapons as proof. I have no idea what the limits to Deus's powers are but he was able to wipe out a whole planet. I'm willing to bet that part of the system was designed to play around with atmospheric conditions. Lets just say that earth was at war with an alien race with a completely different genetic makeup, requiring different environmental conditions. Deus changes the environment to suit humans who can then invade the planet and colonise it. Meanwhile the terminal interface weapons would be able to defend Deus and attack the enemy stronghold until humans were able to land. Again this is just a theory but let me know what you think of it

Anyone could answer. Oh and I have changed my signiture back to what I normally use, but when I signed up on LeMonde I was in my ChronoCross opssession. Well here is my original. HAVE A RAINY DAY!

Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed them. I'm not bothered one way or the other when people address these posts to Myaru I'll be the first to admit that she's one of the best experts on Xenogears around. Some people suck up to her but that's their choice I've asked her for advice on one or two occassions and had the odd conversation. In my opinion people should treat her as a fellow fan of the game and nothing more. You do get some people who get cheesed off about people sucking up to her but in my opinion it shows their own immaturity. I'm not going to point out those people and sink to their level but if you really want to know just check out a few posts here and there and you'll easily find out who.
