ok, maria(i think thats her name, i never looked at her much) is stupid, she rides on top of the gears head, don't u think that would leave her vulnerable to some very brutal damage? i mean th gear gets hit, she should fly off.

Hmm... can you actually SEE Maria on Seibzehn's head in regular battles? I know she sits there during the Seibzehn/Achtzehn fight (protected, admittedly, by Seibzehn's cunning red windshield - did you think it was just decorative?), but in regular battles, I don't think she's visible. (I used Maria from the time I got her onwards, BTW). Perhaps she usually rides in one of the other gears' cockpits? Andvari and Weltall have a back seat, certainly.
As for going in people's houses... nope, that just doesn't make sense <g>!

Ummm....I'm sure this whole problem is explained somewhere in Perfect Works... :P Maybe her budget-cut Omni Gear had a cock pit?

Well the game developers neglected to build a cockpit for her gear so standing on the head is probably the safest place for her to stand. If she stood on the ground she would be running the risk of getting stepped on. I think its just an attempt at designing another Gear with a seperate look from all the others. Granted it's not really practical but who cares its just a game and besides ChuChu growing really big and fighting gears looks a lot more ridiculous then Maria standing on top of her Gear. I just want to know who she managed to hold onto the thing without falling off

I kind of think that it is cool. I, too, didn't use Maria alot, but I think that Sebzeim(sp?) is an awesome looking Gear. I think that Maria wears magnetic boots. Trust me, the voices in my head told me so.

Yes.. what IS stupid in that aspect, is that Maria manages to always stand still on her gear, regardless on his movement vector... And if she had a very powerful magnet for her boots, she might as well been torn apart or broke her neck if the gear ever travelled at high speed.... So that's quite possibly the ONLY thing that is stupid with Maria / Xenogears.... O wait, nm, there's also Chu-chu.... :)

Sometimes it seems, to me, that somethings don't deserve the thought that people give them... There are a lot of inconsistancies in videogames...

Finally, someone thinks like me on these things. lol They don't agree with Maria standing on Seibzehn, but it's okay for people to shoot fireballs, fight creatures much larger them, live in a world where you can enter people's houses and steal their stuff without them being bothered (yeah, I saw you open that treasure chest) and ride in giant robots in the first place. Sheesh.
That's why I rarely post in these threads o_O

You mean people don't really do what video game people do?

The most you can do with these threads is have a bit of a laugh. It might sound harsh but at the end of the day Xenogears is just a game and things dont have to make absolute sense. Other unrealistic things include blue hair on Miang, Bart's Yggdrasil depth charge attack being used inside dungeons and then of course the characters are shot repeatedly by enemies throughout the course of the game yet remarkably seem to have perfect health at the end.
The fact of the matter is that if the game developers feel that the element will make the game better then they'll put it in. Would you really enjoy visiting villages more if total strangers never let you into their homes for a quick chat followed by you taking that ether in the corner.

No, but sometimes more realism is fun. PLay Fallout, you'll see what I mean. IT's nice when you're a super-guy but everyone treats you like normal. And when you kill all their children, they get pissed at you and try to run you out of town, just like IRL. And when you kill them too, they feel kinda foolish being dead and all. Btw, that kid threw a rock at me, I had every right to shoot him :)

Personally I prefer games which are far removed from reality. I hate Tekken games because if I'm going to fight somebody I want to throw fireballs at them and burn them with flaming uppercuts like in Rival schools or even street fighter. Same goes for racing games I hated Colin McCrae but used to get a buzz out of mario kart espeically the deathmatch mode. Realism can have its place though like in Metal gear solid certain elements are true to life like how he catches the cold or in Xenogears how the people react to Fei blowing up his home town. Still everyone is different and as usual I reccomend that people play the games they like and just have fun.
