To symplify it think of it this way (d)id. Beyond that TC and the others are right its taken from Freud's research and pronounced in exactly the same way as he pronounced it. I'd show you with phonetic symbols but humanity neglected to put the symbols on keyboards.

Personally, I pronounce it as I.D., which is also happends to be correct pronounciation I think (we debated this here few months ago).. Japaneese version, however, names "Id" as "Ido" if i recall correctly...

I used to say it "I.D." until I realized that it was in reference to the psychodynamic theory of "id" vs. "ego" vs. "superego".
*spoiler for if you haven't beaten Xenogears but insist on discussing the story in the story forum without fully understanding it*
As I.D. is an abbreviation for IDentification and Id is the Freudian theory of the subconscious. Since, by all indications, the name "Id" in Xenogears comes from the a psychology background (as Id is Fei's subconscious).
