IGN.com finally added mention of Xenosaga to it's page. It seems that the cinema shown at the Namco booth had *all* sorts of interesting, very familiar terminology in it..
And the date 20XX...
One possible solution to the copyright problem? Go back to the beginning and develop a different way to get to the Xenogears scenario...

Episode 1 ?!
T.C. 4775 ?!
The background music in the MPEG movie closely resembles the "Alpha and Omega" & "One Who Bare Fangs at God" tracks!!
AWESOME. Folks, it looks like we have a prequel to Xenogears, yes indeedy.
I guess Takahashi-san is taking his Director's Comment in PW into account; that Xenogears was supposed to be a trilogy consisting of Episode 1, Episode 5 and Episode 6. Episodes 2, 3 and 4 are to be made into 'novelized fiction'.
It all returns to nothing. It all comes tumbling down tumbling down tumbling down.

It's a grand time to be a Xenofan, is it not? We've been given our hope back.

It certainly is. I've been able to decipher some of the text from that movie:
System NATARAJA Column 20XX Christian Era Surface reason Federations of States 4 expeditions? Unknown Object "Land speculation"
Dammit, if the video was more clearer. All in all, VERY INTERESTING.
The fact that T.C. 4775 was clearly shown, along with EPISODE 1 is more than enough to convince me that Xenosaga has direct relations to Xenogears (rather than a 'sequelness' disguise), despite popular denouncement of such a claim. Time to get a PS2.
EPISODE 1 20XX Christian Era T.C. 4775
(But T.C. 4775 somewhat contradicts the info in PW... the last T.C. era was 4767 -- UNLESS... 4775 pertains to Neo Jerusalem!?!)
It all returns to nothing. It all comes tumbling down tumbling down tumbling down.

I am reminded of a converastion that appeared on Saga's website between a pair of androids discussing what it meant to be a servant of humanity.. as Guardian Angels as it were...
Now, of course, Mrs Saga has taken most of the things off of her website as of March 1, so I can't really call up the exact line, and it's quite possible that the plot has gon through several evolutions since then.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't care if it's bad or if it is just stealing a title. I just want to feel like I did when I heard there was a FF3 for Super Nintendo when I didn't know FF was a series and I thought I would never experience anything like 2(4j) again!!!! I almost didn't buy FF3 because I was afraid it would just not live up to and would ruin my love for 2, but I bought it anyway . . . AND I AM SO STINK'N GLAD I DID!! XENOSAGA may stink and may not be anything like what we want, but what the Hell! I just spent 30 minutes dancing around my room like a madwoman to really loud Billy Joel songs BECAUSE I AM SO STINK'N HAPPPPPPPPPPYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

agreed.... When I started playing "FF3" I thought that it'll have hard time beating "FF2" in terms of godliness, and I was very disapointed to see the heroes weren't the same as FF2 :((

The odds are high: the game will suck Sequel won't sell without luck!! I mean, come on, let's guys be real It kills all charm of Xenogear
I bet my life that it will be Like F.F.* games to some degree: A story set apart from truth Regarding some tough acting youth
Who wants to be just left alone Wishing for all just to be gone So let's not put our hope so high This Xeno crap must be a lie
I don't desire to associate The game I loved with crap I'll hate Besides, I'll need a P.S.-TWO My emulator just won't do.....
And those of you who doubt my words And to protest assemble hordes Just look at Chrono sequel shit That story-wise was far from hit
O wait, forgot you guys believe That Chrono Cross, although naive Was the best thing since sliced bread. Your lack of taste might be a threat!
But hey, I think I'll end my rant And see what time for us will grant But as of now, I deem of Saga ** To be no better than Shinji-baka....
* FF should be pronounced as "hef-hef" ** Saga as in XenoSaga

Mitsuda's presence in this project, along with the pseudo-sequelness of Xenosaga is more than enough to convince me to purchase a PS2 (any project headed by Takahashi-san is more than enough ;)).
Even if it's just for this one game (even if importing the game is the only option) ;)
I always thought the 'comb-looking' monolith that was homing toward Earth in the Project X promo poster look somewhat like Zohar..
It all returns to nothing. It all comes tumbling down tumbling down tumbling down.

yeah, now there's actually a reason to buy PS2, outside of having the extra DVD Player :E Now I only need the money... :{

Hopefully things will turn out well
hopefully it wont' have anything to do with Xenogears :)
Or it could end up being like a "Tales of" type series... which would be fine by me :)
But yes, Mitsuda-san's work and it being made by the Xeno team help make my PS2 purchase seem even better (I'm happy with it so far :)

I dunno.. but for one thing, the project thus far reads like a who's who of Xenogears writers & staff.. Soraya Saga (formerly Clio Saga) is more likely than not involved in this lovely little hint of wonderful things to come.
I don't care if it isn't a sequel.
I'd run around town waving sparklers if it simply takes what they weren't allowed to finish in the original game and *fix* *it* so that it's the way they want it. At very least, the title's a massive nose-thumbing at Square which must've had a mild stroke when that name got unveiled.

Square is too arrogant to be intimidated. ^^
Ms. Saga had a part in the script, apparently, and I know she was involved in character designs (that being her primary job and all, of course)... but whether her part in this game is bigger than it was with Xenogears or not... *shrug* I like what I've seen on her site, anyway. Haven't been there in a while...

Well the game isnt being made by Square its being made by Namco. So the game isnt really a sequel. We all knew about this game months ago we just didnt expect them to use that name. The story cant be anything Xenogears related since Square has the rights to that material. This isnt a sequel just a game with Xeno in its name and a production team with members who worked on Xenogears.
It'll probably be a great game but unless I missed something this isnt Xenogears2.

Yeah, I think a lot of people are excited that this will be a Xenogears 2.
Which it won't.
Because it's already not.
And in fact, I sometimes fear that it'll be so much like Xenogears, it won't even be original.
If I were them, I wouldn't have even used the prefix "Xeno" in the title...

Well, that depends on what you want to do with the scenario.. there have been *rumors* about Xenosaga being intended as, if not the direct sequel then the spiritual successor to Xenogears.
In a way, putting 'Xeno' in the title provides a connection to the original work.
Considering the current popularity of screw-with-your-head mecha-mystical shows in Japan like Arento Zoma, Initial D, Parallel Trouble Dual, etc etc etc they'd be *foolish* to not take the same concept as before and carry it through to completion.
Don't look at the notion as much as a sequel.. as much as it is a 'this is what we *wanted* to do'.

I'm actually a bit unclear who actually owns Xenogears. I've heard some people say that Square only owns the name, and that Tetsuya Takahashi has the rights to the story and can take it wherever he wants.
I believe Mitsuda is now a freelancer (which is just as well, because I personally believe being too tied down with Square might be ruining Nobuo Uematsu's career).
BTW, people here keep saying "sequel", but by all indications it's a prequel.
