Doesn't interest me so I wont see it.  The film looks like the life of christ video Christian groups try to send out to people for free over here.  "You too can learn the power of Christ".   It just looks like something similar to me, just with a bigger budget and Mel Gibson.  Has anyone else noticed that every role he picks now is some religious figure.  Even We were soldiers had all of this "We're going to Vietnam to kill people, lets pray" crap in it and next to nothing about the actual political reasons for the war.  So yeah short answer no long answer;  is Mel Gibson going to be playing God next?

Man on the Train : I haven't seen too many around lately. Things have been tough lately for dreamers. They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore. It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language. Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists. The dreamer is banished to obscurity. Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too. By dreaming, every day. Dreaming with our hands and dreaming with our minds. Our planet is facing the greatest problems it's ever faced, ever. So whatever you do, don't be bored, this is absolutely the most exciting time we could have possibly hoped to be alive. And things are just starting

Uhh, the reason he decided to do a movie about Jesus is because he is a very devout and orthadox christian, as in he rejects most of the changes in vatican council II...

As for The Passion of The Christ, I'm guessing you haven't seen the trailer, because it seems nothing like a "Join our Religion" film...It is an account of the last 12 hours of Jesus' life based on 3 or the gospels...

I think it will be a great eye opener to all christians and people around the world.  Sure, you've read about Christ's execution, but few actually experience how much suffering was caused to this man.  The film is a great way for people to get a visual of this experience.  Believer or non-believer it cant hurt to take in all points of view.

One of my friend's mom wont let her go see it because she said it will cause her to cry too much. (her mom has already seen the film) huh

I honestly can't wait to see this movie. Who knows? Maybe I will pay the 8.50 for a movie ticket to see it. I have only heard of the suffereing that he went through, but it was always watered down, I never really grasped what happened.

I laugh thinking of Jesus getting crucified.  He died so I could laugh at his non-existance. For us, the greedy and selfish population.  Thats my take on anything with Christianity.

I'm not overly religious or anything, but you sir, are an idiot.

My take on you:

"OHEMGEE, w3rd, let's hate on a religion becuz they rn't punk rawk enuf, and I think life is meaningless emo LOL!!!!11!!!eleventyseven"

That's just me, of course.

Anyway, I'm more than halfway interested in seeing the movie because the legend surrounding the life of Christ has always fascinated me. I blame it on Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade. Additionally, after watching Braveheart (for the 100th time, it never gets tiring), I think Mel Gibson is a wonderful director, so I really want to see what he's done with this.

Oh, and isn't all the spoken dialogue in Latin, or some other long-dead language that I can't speak?

I'm interested in seeing it.  Not for any religious reasons, I mean, I'm not even Christian... it's just that it looks like a really well-made movie.

And yes, the movie is entirely in Latin... that's actually one of the things about it that seems kind of interesting to me.

I'm not sure I'll see it in theatres, though.  I was considering pirating it, but something about that just seems even more wrong than usual. Tongue

-Surtur'll probably do it anyway.

Surtur:I think it's in Aremeic, not Latin.

Ah.  I heard it was Latin a long time ago, while it was still in production, but a quick search seems to indicate you're right.

On the other hand, it could all be part of some massive conspiracy to confound me, leaving me ripe for the kill.

[Edit:  Actually, Yahoo! says it's both.  So... whatever.]

Will be cool to see it, because it'll be historically correct I believe.

Actually the existence of Jesus is pretty heavily documented so saying he didn't exist is a bit like saying Columbus didn't exist or Nazi concentration camps.  The only thing is that if you're a Christian he was the saviour of humanity died for our sins and was God in human form (or God's son depending on the interpretation you go with).  If you're not a Christian then he was as my sig says a rather nice chap who was nailed to two pieces of wood for saying that the world would be better if we were all nice to each other.

Well there's not too many good ways to go out, crusifixion certainly beats being burnt at the stake.  Oh and just a quick point crusifixion was done quite a bit back then so it's not like he was the only one.  I mean sure it's horrible for anyone to go through but its not like the worst death of all time.  As for experiencing it, I do remember hearing that theres one place where this guy crusified himself in the name of religion.  Though personally I'd rather not go through any painful ordeal.

I'm pretty sure it would be in Aremeic since that's the language which was spoken back in the time of Christ and not latin which would serve no use whatsoever.

I haven't heard anything about the movie and it's not screaming out to me to go see it.  I went to a Catholic school, so I've seen many depictions of Jesus in movies and in plays ("Jesus of Nazareth", which was a TV Miniseries, was pretty nicely done, and went through Jesus' life until resurrection).

It was a very common activity for students to make paper collages representing the Stations of the Cross, and so forth.  Once, in Grade 8, we did a passion play with no other props besides three satin sheets - two small, and one large, and depicted the crucifixion that way.  Many students were amazed to see even the most hardass teachers that term crying after watching the play.

The crucifixion is quite a touching subject and it is a remarkable story, though.  If you don't know much about it, it would probably be a good idea to go see the movie.  Even better, one should read the Bible before seeing the movie and get a feel for the source material.  All of the Gospels cover the crucifixion in varying amounts of detail.
