Heyyyy, everyone.  I am still alive.  Somewhat.  Figured it was about time to pop in.
Been lurking a bit... ever since I started work I haven't had the energy to maintain an online presence beyond talking to people on IM.  But it's always nice to see people still posting here.  So I thought I'd add to the niceness and post too.  I have also been working on a little ridiculous project which I will make a new thread about, and which will undoubtedly raise questions about why I have time for dumb shit like that but not to post.  I have no answer.  I am weird.

Yes, because, sitting at a desk all day is really hard werk.

I haven't posted in here yet, but what I'm up to nowadays: school, trying to form a competitive Left 4 Dead team, working on a new versus l4d video, getting cash together to buy a camera so I can shoot some films in order to put together a portfolio for film school.  A day really needs more than 24 hours in it.

Hm.  Sitting at a desk can be brain-numbing, which makes up for the possible dearth of hard work.  I'm not sure which is better: going to work and having nothing to do (but maybe an opportunity to uh, write stuff), or going to work and having enough work to eat up your standard hours and then some.  I guess it depends on whether you're salaried?

Not that I'd know, because while I've graduated and made an effort to find a job every day for the last couple of months, I still don't have one!  Fucking economy.

Oh, and I'm married.  Who would've thought.

Well, for me it's actually the one and a half hour commute to and from work every day that sucks the energy out of me.  Work itself is pretty enjoyable, at least for now.  It could just be youthful naivete, and within a year I might be totally sick of it. But getting paid to write, even if it is not actually fiction, is a nice feeling.

But within a year I will probably be sick of it.

Also, congrats, Myaru! Smiley  Unless you got married like 5 years ago.  Then pretend I said it 5 years ago and am not totally oblivious and insensitive.

If you make stuff up, it's fiction Smiley Consider just doing that!

Myaru: Congrats!  (on the marriage, not the lack of job).  Yeah, economy does suck, I was unpaid for a few months end of last year (though still vaguely employed).  Now I'm fully employed and super busy, and miss my free time (I was able to beat Fallout 3 during my prolonged lack of working!)

Ouch, an hour and a half commute really does suck.  I wish I didn't know from experience.  Any chance you can move closer?  (Of course, that'd be a pain in the ass, and also probably expensive.)

Thanks, for both of you!  It was about a month ago, actually, and it's not like I said anything to most people including my family

Enjoy the job while it's enjoyable.  I envy you for having a job and liking it.  What do you write?

Yeahhhhh... I'd love to move closer eventually, but for now I don't really have the money for it, plus this particular job is on a contract that ends in July.  I'm hoping to find something similar in the same area (because, even though I hate the commute, I like being downtown), but who knows.

What do you write?
I work for a social service agency (WoodGreen Community Services - quick shameless plug.  They are a pretty cool charity) and help put together proposals for funding from government grants, foundations, etc.  I really enjoy it because I get to write, but be more creative than if I was, say, a technical writer or something (because you have to be all persuasive), and also get to do something that helps people.  In fact, if anyone is looking for an office/administrative position, I would really recommend considering working for a social service agency.  It's a much different and more pleasant environment than the typical profit-based business, at least in my extremely limited experience.  Of course the downsides are potentially making less money (though there certainly are jobs in the industry that pay alright), and perhaps not the best job security. This reminds me, I should really buy Supreme Commander now that I have a computer that can probably play it, lol.

Yeah, it's pretty cheap too, especially if you get the Gold edition (has Forged Alliance too... which is a major improvement over SupCom imo Wink)

I'm still working on my Ph.D. It's depressing at the same time as it's not too bad. It's depressing because I see everyone else around me with real jobs and it hits the self-esteem.

What the... Bob?  Jesus christ, when was the last time you posted?

*checks*
2000 and fucking 5.  You don't get to just come back and act like nothing happened!

Go back and respond to every thread you missed.  Now.  I've been waiting to hear your thoughts on Marissael's pic of the day for four years.

Ha, that's a long time between posts, Bob.

I wonder how many other people randomly drop by here after every now and then.

Every thread I missed? Like all 8 of them?

lol Smiley I poked around a little and saw that many of the fandom boards have remained mostly the same.

September 2005 was about when I started to write my Master's Thesis. A lot of stuff fell off of my radar around that time, including most console games (I had already quit PC gaming by then, as well as computer music).

Then I started playing World of Warcraft when I went to visit a few friends before my graduation ceremony, they played and invited me to play at that time. I was never one of those stupidly addicted maniacs but I did play a damn lot, maybe 20+ hours a week up until about a month ago. I quit playing WoW in late September because I picked up Aion, but Aion only lasted me for about two weeks before I got bored of it and I stopped. So I've been MMORPG-free for the past month or so and I'm trying to find things to occupy my time with. Honestly it's not really that difficult of an endeavour.

I started up making music with the computer again during the summer, played Dragon Age: Origins and beat it last week (first PC game I've played and enjoyed in a long time actually) and I'm reading a bit more.

I would really like to get involved in some kind of technical projects of some kind but I'm not really sure what yet... Anyone around want a developer? I'm up for learning something new but it's easier for me to start up if I know someone wants something done.

Welcome back Bo..er.. Arcana... Smiley

Technical project of some kind? Hmm... Create a crawler that replaces Surtur on this board and posts more insightful and well thought through replies to the *active* threads on regular basis. Bonus points if your heuristics trigger Surtur-bashing mode if he ever posts yet another stupidity..

There aren't that many active threads around on this board. A lot of posts on the subforums still date back to 2006 but are on the front page.
